Toddler Discovery Time: Fun with Homemade Flubber!

Hey folks! I've had one of those weeks where I'm really into crafty projects and fun activities with Myka and want to do 50 billion of them. The day after we made the tissue paper windsock and played with "sand" for the first time in a month or, I was perusing my Facebook before Myka woke up and saw that my mother in-law had posted a recipe for homemade flubber. Of course, my first thought was, "Oh my God! I have to try that!" So we did...
Yes, I have a Halloween shirt on in May. It's my favorite. It's so comfy. Don't judge me. :P

So, what the heck is flubber made of? Three simple ingredients, my friends! Glue, water, and a tiny, tiny bit of borax. (If you have concerns about the safety of borax, please read THIS. Also, I have no intentions of getting into an argument with anyone about this. hint hint) You can also add food coloring if you like. You can find the full recipe that I used HERE.
Not going to lie: Myka wasn't super into it. She mostly just enjoyed picking small pieces off and putting them in the bowl, which you can kind of see in the video below. However, I was surprised she was even willing to touch it since she's still kind of weird about textures. She's getting more adventurous!
My attempt at demonstrating how this stuff "flows"...And then Myka trying to steal the show. ha ha I think you get a good idea of the consistency from the pictures and video, though. :)

  4. Flubber that is a real throwback. I remember seeing the movie when I was younger. This looks like a cool thing to make that my son would enjoy.
