About the Author: Angela Muse
Angela Muse was born in California to a military family. This meant that she got used to being the "new kid" in school every couple of years. It was hard trying to make new friends, but Angela discovered she had a knack for writing. In high school Angela began writing poetry and song lyrics. Expressing herself through writing seemed very natural. After becoming a Mom in 2003, Angela continued her storytelling to her own children. In 2009 she wrote and published her first rhyming children's book aimed at toddlers. Since then she has released several more children's picture books and released books in her first young adult romance series, The Alpha Girls, in 2013/2014. Her husband, Ben Muse writes suspense/thriller books that can also be found on Amazon.Website | Facebook | Goodreads | Twitter
Mixed Bag Mama's Review
First of all, does this book not look totally adorable just judging by the cover?! I loved the colorful and unique illustrations and children will too. Each picture captures well what each individual turkey is doing, so even younger children will be able to understand what is going on.
Don't get me wrong, though. Ten Thankful Turkeys is not wordy. The author manages to be descriptive while still writing in a simple way. As always, I was a fan of the rhyming text as well. I think it makes books more fun for young children to read and helps them to remember the story as well.
I will definitely be sharing this book with my two year old. We aren't exactly religious in the way that most people are here in the U.S. Because of this, I am a bit particular about the holiday books we choose for our daughter. I had a hard time last Thanksgiving finding a related book that wasn't full of bologna about how the first Thanksgiving came about or wasn't heavily influenced by Christianity. Finding a light-hearted book and/or one that teaches us to be thankful for the little things in life all the time was more of a struggle than you would think.
That is the main reason why I enjoyed Ten Thankful Turkeys. It is fun, explains the meal preparations many families go through on Thanksgiving, and teaches to be thankful for the time we get to spend with friends and family on a special day of the year. Plain and simple. If you're looking for something similar, definitely be sure to check this book out just in time for Thanksgiving this year!
