BLT Update 2/28/14
Hey folks! I don't have any fun or useful tips for you this time, but I thought I would share some of the funny (and strange) new things Myka has learned recently.
I used to try harder not to do this because some people say that it may give kids a complex about using the bathroom and make potty training harder when they're older, but I can't help myself. As I've heard from numerous parents, Myka's poos have been getting stinkier as she's getting older. Like a lot of people, I find myself saying, "pew pew" and waving my hand in front of my face whenever I change her #2 diapers. You know. Just being silly. Well, evidently I do it more often than I realize because she has picked up on it and waves her little hand in front of her face whenever I say "pew pew" or open her dirty diaper up. lol
Speaking of turds, she has also started this thing in the last few weeks where she will shake her head "no" when she's getting ready to do something she knows she shouldn't be...And then proceeds to do it anyways...While still shaking her head "no" and looking directly at me. -_-

Maple Hill Naturals Review & Giveaway
Hey folks! You know how much I love natural products, so I was super excited when I was given the opportunity to review some bath and body products from Maple Hill Naturals!
Over the past year or so, we have slowly but surely been weeding out our chemical laden, store bought bath and body products with natural and/or organic products. As some of you may know, we make a lot of our own "stuff", but we know that's not feasible for everyone so we (my husband and I) still enjoy trying out other companies natural bath and body products and spreading the word!
I love their recycled packaging for the soaps!
Maple Hill Naturals was started by a husband and wife team and is based out of West Lafayette, IN. I love that they are a U.S. business, but what is even more cool to me is that West Lafayette is only about an hour away from where I grew up! Maple Hill Naturals offer an array of eco-friendly products, such as wool dryer balls, soaps, lip and hand balms, and more! They even have Pure & Gentle products that are baby and child friendly.
Maple Hill Naturals was generous enough to send me several of their products to review. You will also have a chance to win your own at the end!
Vanilla Dream Natural Lip Balm
Ironically enough, I think this was my favorite item even though I don't normally use lip balm unless it's absolutely necessary. However, the air has been unusually dry here this winter, so it has come in handy! I love vanilla anything and this lip balm smells great! (If you're not a vanilla fan they do offer other flavors.) If you're one of those people that likes to "taste it" too, the flavor isn't all that strong. Personally, I don't think that's a bad thing.
My favorite thing about it is that it stays on your lips for a long time because of the beeswax and shea butter. Like I said, I'm "low maintenance" anyways and don't even use lip balm all that much, so the last thing I want to do is reapply it every 5 minutes. I find it especially handy it lasts long since I'm constantly drinking water.
Lavender Vanilla Dream Shampoo & Conditioning Bar
I love, love, love shampoo bars. They are one of my favorite things I've discovered since researching natural hair care alternatives. I was really excited that this bar is supposed to be conditioning as well. I mean heck, look at all those hydrating ingredients, like jojoba and avacado oil, shea butter, olive oil, etc. With that being said, I was surprised and disappointed that it dried my hair out some.
My hair is pretty normal for the most part as far as being dry or oily goes. Maybe it's just the time of the year too that's causing it to dry out. Like I said, the air has been unusually dry here this winter. So, if you have hair that's more on the oily side I still highly recommend this! It lathers really well and smells good to boot. There are also other scent options, including something a bit, ahem, "manlier". :)
Lavender Vanilla Dream Essential Oil Soap
Last, but not least, is the essential oil soap! I love that these are scented with essential oils instead of fragrance because 1) It's a lot better for you and less likely for you to have reactions to and 2) you get the added beneficial qualities of the oils! I thought it was neat that they put oats in their soap as well. It really adds that extra exfoliating quality to the soap, not to mention oats are supposed to be good for sucking up excess oils on the skin.
Funny story: Speaking of allergic reactions, I was really glad I didn't have any with this soap. I recently discovered that I am somewhat allergic to the lavender essential oil we currently have at home. I didn't think about it until after my review products were on their way. That would have been slightly embarrassing if I had gotten red, splotchy, itchy bumps from using the soap, huh?
You can stay up to date with Maple Hill Naturals on Facebook, Twitter, and Google+. Use coupon code GETTINGGREENWITHBABY from now until 3/13/14 to receive 25% off of your entire order! (Limit one coupon per customer. Cannot be used in conjunction with any other offers.)

Things to do with Babies & Toddlers in Hot Springs, AR
Ok. So I know I'm not a regional or even state-centered blog, for that matter. However, I feel compelled to write this post in hopes that someone some time soon or maybe a few months or years down the line will find it helpful.
Let's face it: It can be hard finding fun activities to do outside of the house for the baby/toddler age range no matter where you live...Let alone free or cheap ones. When I say the "baby/toddler age range", I'm referring to children between ages birth and 2 1/2 years of age, 3 at the very most. (Am I the only one who's noticed the age cutoff for "toddlers" seems to have increased lately? When did 3 and 4 year olds become toddlers? I've seen a lot of "activities for toddlers" posts lately that are definitely not age appropriate for what I consider toddlers. Anyways...) It is my hope that other parents in my shoes (and by "my shoes" I mean not terribly familiar with the area and what all businesses are around) will come across this post while searching the Interwebs one day and save them a bunch of time and hassle. Enjoy!

Little Golden Books-Making Memories
Hey folks! I'm not sure how I missed the first 3 weeks of Blogging Mamas "Contently Creative" blog hop because I absolutely love my Blogging Mamas Network group on Facebook, but this week's writing prompt is "making memories". I can always use ideas for new posts (even though I currently have about 3 weeks of posts scheduled in advance with more reviews/giveaways to fit in!), so this week's theme got me to thinking...
My, er, Myka's stash of Little Golden Books
Most of my family members, especially my aunts, have a bad habit of being "pack rats". My mom and I are no exception. I finally made myself throw away letters from late elementary/early middle school a month or so ago when we were going through some things. Yah. I'm one of those people. However, I'm glad my mom and I have a habit of holding onto things for longer than we should in certain instances. Namely, a lot of items from when I was a kid.

Sensory Time with Beans! (BLT)
I have been wanting to do something new and different with Myka for a week or so now. While I would like to do something messy, I have accidentally turned her into an ocd clean freak and don't think she would enjoy it much. :/ (The things you do without thinking about them that change the way your kids act, huh?)
As I've mentioned before, I love sensory activities. They're just fun! Since "messy" was out of the question, "BEANS!" just randomly hit me last Friday evening. They're cheap, you don't need many, they're not messy, and they're easy to clean up. What's not to love? So I got the containers we use for playing with water beads a handful or two of pinto beans and we went to town...

Have I ever mentioned that Myka obsessively sorts things? I figure it's just the age she's at, right? Watch the short video below to see what I mean.

Hugo the Happy Starfish: Teamwork is just one of many books in this series about a little starfish who wishes to venture away from his home at the bottom of the sea and visit the real world. He meets lots of new friends along the way and learns valuable life skills as well!
In Teamwork, Hugo and his friend Seedo are traveling across the ocean when a hurricane threatens them. They quickly swim to a nearby island and begin going about building a shelter. Unfortunately, they face many obstacles along the way. With the help of Seedo and his magical trumpet and their other friends, they eventually get the shelter built by working together. They also get rewarded with a magical surprise at the end for working together too!
The Hugo books combine two of my favorite things: books and learning! This book, along with the other Hugo books, would be great to read with kids who may be starting preschool soon as they teach important life skills, such as sharing, working together, patience, dealing with bullies, tolerance, and so much more! All important things to become a successful and enjoyable individual to be around. Kids will love this book for the colorful characters and the fun magical, imaginative aspects of it as well.
Teamwork also provides expanded learning opportunities. Kids may not know what a hurricane is, so this would be a perfect time to talk about them! There are also worksheets for some of the books provided on Hugo's website HERE for free, as well as games and coloring pages. Be sure to check out all of the Hugo books while you're there too!
I received one or more of the products mentioned above for free using Tomoson.com. Regardless, I only recommend products or services I use personally and believe will be good for my readers.

The Agonizing Wait for...
Before anyone gets too excited, no, I'm not currently pregnant. (That I'm aware of.) This is my test from when I found out I was pregnant with Myka. Sorry to burst any bubbles out there.
However, I wouldn't say we're actively trying to have another baby, but we're not exactly doing anything to prevent it. We're taking the "whatever happens, happens" approach for now. I had a weird feeling all last month that something would happen, though, so now it's like some breaking news story in my brain: Pregnancy Watch 2014. If that made any sense. For me, though, things aren't easy in the baby making department.

30 Day Honey Challenge-Final Update!
If you've been keeping up with the honey challenge at all, I have good news for you: You don't have to look at any more horrendous pictures of my face! lol But seriously, what are my thoughts upon completing the 30 Day Honey Challenge?
First of all, I have to admit that I'm glad I don't have to remember to do it every day now. I'm very uncomplicated in the daily routine department (read: lazy) and to be honest, I usually don't wash my face every day. Some may argue that that's my problem as far as acne goes. Other people, like my husband, think I wash my face too much and swear up and down that their own face breaks out less often the less they wash their face. That's all fine and dandy, but that's your face, not mine.
Second, and I really hate saying this, but I don' t feel there's been a significant amount of improvement to continue using honey on my face. Not the honey I was using anyways. I am thinking about trying the Raw Buckwheat Honey from MVTC that I received for review and only using it when I would normally wash my face. I have a feeling it's a lot better than the stuff I was using anyways.
Finally, as I've mentioned in previous updates, I think a large part of the reason this "didn't work" is the whole hormone factor. I really think mine are just too messed up for my own good. If you get blemishes or have acne from not eating a very good diet and, well, other non-hormonal related things, I think honey would help you out. I've read plenty of stories online about individuals having a lot of luck with honey.

Simple Start App Review
Disclaimer: I received a free trial to Weight Watchers (including the Simple Start App) to facilitate this review. Regardless, all opinions expressed within are my own and may differ from your own.
Hey folks! Losing weight/getting in shape is probably the most popular New Year's Resolution there is. Unfortunately, many people "fall off the wagon" within the first month. Luckily, Weight Watchers just released a new program in December that will help you kick start AND stay on track with your weight loss goals! The Simple Start program is designed to ease you into the Weight Watchers program and help you learn what to eat. It includes meal and snack ideas, a list of power foods that comes in handy for grocery shopping, and you can view all of it on your iPhone or Android. (Unless your phone is "too old" like mine. BUT, you can still view it online as well.)
The Simple Start Plan is great because you learn what foods are healthy without having to worry about counting points or portion size yet. (The meals and snacks list their points values, so you can still count points, of course, if you so choose.) Plus, they even include a list of healthier versions of "indulgences", so yes, you can still eat ice cream, chocolate, and even drink wine occasionally! (It's actually a good thing to not completely cut out sweets and treats. Just don't over do it.)

Hey folks! I hope you are enjoying all of the new book reviews on the blog. I have several more children's books coming your way soon AND a special book for the new mommies out there!
Today's book for review is Time Together: Me and Dad by Maria Catherine. This is a great little book for 2-6 year olds. It's written in a very simple and direct way and the book is short so little readers won't get distracted as easily. Even if your children aren't old enough to read yet, the illustrations are colorful and fun and should keep their attention and be enjoyable to look at while you read it to them.
The book illustrates every day activities that dads and kids can enjoy together, such as "Bear hug time" and "Sky high building time". I think this would be a great book for dads to read WITH their children. They may even get some ideas for new activities to do with their children in their free time! With the majority of dads working outside of the home, it's nice to spend some quality time together. What better way than curling up with a good book?! Capstone Young Readers also offers Time Together: Me and Mom if that's more up your alley.
Overall I really liked this book and highly recommend it if you have young children!
