5 Reasons to Line Dry

Hey folks! I just love easy ways to live a little greener of a lifestyle, don't you? Today I'm sharing 5 reasons to consider one of my favorite ways to live a little greener: line drying your clothes (and cloth diapers)!

  1. It's cheaper to set up a clothesline than buying a dryer. You can be hillbillies like us and use cut limbs as poles, but I'm willing to bet that even if you use metal poles and cement, you'll still be saving a ton of money!
  2. Speaking of saving money, you'll be saving money by not paying for the electricity to run your dryer as well.
  3. It's eco-friendly. By not using your dryer as much, you're lessening your carbon footprint.
  4. Line drying helps take out stains. To be honest, this is the main reason I wanted to finish the other half of the drying line we had when we moved into this house. I've heard sunning cloth diapers is awesome for taking out stains and it is!
  5. Hanging clothes up to dry is oddly relaxing. Maybe it's just me. Sometimes it does feel like kind of a pita, but most of the time it's a nice, quiet break for me because Myka usually runs off and torments the chickens while I hang clothes.

Do you line dry your clothes or cloth diapers? Why or why not?

  1. Stopping by from the Green Living Link-Up. Just gotta say "Hooray for sunning cloth diapers!!!" It's the ONLY way I can get some of those stains out. (EBF poop DOES stain...those liars. ;-))

  2. I find it relaxing, too! And when the breeze blows through the freshly laundered clothes......ahhhh!

  3. I only hang our shirts, pants, and such. I have a couple drying racks that I have outside due to no clothes line, but I scored big time when we bought our house because the lady that lived here had two lines set up in the basement for drying clothes. I love it!

I also find hanging clothes out relaxes me.

    1. I hear ya. I don't bother with socks, underwear, etc. That would take FOR-EV-ER! lol I would like to get some drying racks for indoors too for when the weather is crummy.

  4. I love it too... I started with shirts hanging indoors a long time ago because I am long and was paranoid of my shirts shrinking, then we moved to an apartment with coin wash so I stuck everything on my portable racks... and now with diapers and babies it just all goes on the line! I get a sense of satisfaction taking down dry, white diapers :)

You would never guess what they were selling - "Air-Of-Dry". It was like are they crazy- Thailand has the most hottest sunshine and they are selling an oven like to help dry their clothes. This is insane! Sorry rants over. Thank you for linking up with us on #FabFridayPost

  8. I would love to hang my washing out. We don't actually have a garden as I love in a block of flats. So I have to hang all my washing for airers indoors. Sarah #FabFridayPost

  9. We do line dry, all year, even in the winter. We hang items in our garage or on our shower curtain rods in the winter. Line drying also helps save your clothes! All that lint in your lint trap is your clothes dying lol. I actually started line drying when we started to cloth diaper ;). Thanks for sharing with us at the homestead blog hop, hope to see you again this week!
