How to (Easily) Make Applesauce

Hey folks! Did you know that making applesauce is SUPER easy? It's true. You know what's (possibly) even better than it being easy? It tastes 10x better than store bought applesauce! Follow my simple directions below and try it for yourself!

What You'll Need:

-apples
-cinnamon
-oil of your choice (vegetable, olive, etc.)
-food processor
-cutting board
-knife, corer (optional), peeler (optional), pastry brush (recommended), small bowl for oil (you won't need much!)

*Preheat your oven to 350F.

*Cut your apples into fourths*. Also cut off any bad spots, if necessary, of course. I really just don't like peels on anything, so I peel the skins off of mine as well, but you can definitely leave them on if you like or don't feel like doing the extra work. ;)

Don't forget to put those apple cores in your compost pile! I fed ours to our Guinea Hog, Bruce. He was eternally grateful. ;)

*Next, lay your apple pieces out on a cookie sheet with a lip or any other baking dish you have with a lip. In case you haven't caught on yet, just make sure it's something oven-safe and has a lip. ;)

*Using an oil of your choice (I usually use olive oil because we always have it on hand), give your apples a good coating on each side. Pastry brushes come in handy!

*Now for the best part: Liberally sprinkle with cinnamon! Also, be sure to add some water in your pans. (This is why I was going on about your bake ware needing a lip.) It helps the apples not dry out, cook faster, etc.

*Bake for 30-40 minutes, depending on how hot your oven runs and how many apples you have. Once they're easy to poke with a fork they're done.

*Fill your food processor up about halfway with your apple pieces. You'll want to leave some room so that you can add water if needed. (Which you probably will. I always do!) In fact, go ahead and add a little bit before you start.

*Blend until it's nice and saucy, adding water as needed to make it not so thick.

That's it! Not so bad, right? It looks like a lot of steps, but most of it is common sense stuff. If you make a large batch of applesauce, you can always can or freeze some so it lasts longer. Please, please, PLEASE don't ask me how to can stuff. I'm not that cool. I make John deal with that nonsense. :D

*You don't want to cut them into slices because they are much more likely to get burnt! Plus, it takes up a lot of extra room.
