"Around the World in 80 Purees" Book Review

Hey folks! Remember those recipe cards for different ethnic baby foods I shared a week or so ago? I hope you enjoyed those sneak peeks because today I'm sharing my full review for Around the World in 80 Purees!
As I mentioned in the aforementioned post, there seems to be this misconception in America that baby's first foods need to be bland and boring. Although I'm happy to see that rice cereal being suggested as baby's first food seems to be going the way of the dinosaurs, it seems like we still insist on feeding baby lackluster foods, whether it's in puree form or finger foods. Let's spice things up!...Literally...
Leena Saini starts off Around the World in 80 Purees with some handy information before you get started, especially about spices. For whatever reason, U.S. parents seem to be afraid of seasoning their baby's food. However, there are tons of baby-safe spices, which Saini lists for convenience, even for babies who are just trying food for the first time!
As you can imagine from the title, this cook book is just the thing if you would like to vary your baby's diet. Besides making meal times more enjoyable and interesting for baby, giving your little one a variety of flavorful foods should also help to prevent him/her from being as picky of an eater in the future! And what parent wouldn't love to not have a battle at every meal time, right?
Saini includes recipes from all over the world, including India, China, France, and many, many more. The great thing about these baby foods is that most of them (at least the ones I perused through) do not include “crazy” ingredients that you've never heard of or are hard to come by. For the most part, they all contain ingredients that you are familiar with, but maybe had never thought to put them together in such a way, especially for babies.
We are slowly introducing purees to our 7 month old, so I can't wait to try some of these out! I already spice her food, but admittedly don't get too adventurous with the actual fruits and veggies because I'm not very good at coming up with meals myself. You can purchase your own copy of Around the World in 80 Purees HERE. Bon appetit!

  3. I used to be really worried about giving my kids the right things and when I had my first I used to try and puree and freeze stuff all the time. This book sounds great. Sarah #FabFridayPost

    1. In hindsight, I feel like I went overboard with the mass preparing and freezing of purees with my first. lol
